To conceive, it is important to know the moment of ovulation.  The plots will show the expected time of ovulation.  For a healthy people it is enough.  When there are reproductive system problems, knowing the exact moment of ovulation can dramatically increase your chances to conceive.  Please consult with your doctor and he or she will advise you on how to better determine the moment of ovulation in your individual case.  Ultrasonography provides the best accuracy.  Special test kits and measuring basal temperature have less accuracy.  The general rule is: the more serious the reproductive system problem, the more precisely you need to know the moment of ovulation, and the closer to ovulation should be the moment of intercourse.  Your doctor can help you to find the best way.  However, it should be noted that having intercourse closer to ovulation increases the likelihood of having a baby boy.

 

To plan conception you need to choose the time of maximal fertility (red and green lines) and determine the best days for intercourse.  For instance, as in the above example, such days are August 12, 13 and 14.   Please note that red and green lines coincide for these days, which significantly increases you chances.  Also at this time the sperm activity peak is very close. 

 

Please also be aware of one more important fertility period right before or during the time of menstruation. Intercourse a few hours before the period can be productive.  A woman usually senses the approach of this moment so it is easier to catch.  Before intercourse for the purpose of conception, it is helpful to abstain for about 3 days. This allows for a greater percentage of fresh sperm.

 

Male spermatozoa have better mobility but a shorter life span, whereas female spermatozoa are slower but are able to live longer.  Therefore male spermatozoa will reach the egg faster and female spermatozoa can wait longer.  This makes it possible to influence fetus gender.  For example, to conceive a baby boy you need to have intercourse as close to the moment of ovulation as possible.  Likewise, to have a baby girl, intercourse should be much earlier.  That way, in the time leading up to ovulation male spermatozoa will lose their power and their female counterparts will do the job.  This principle was discovered by Landrum B. Shettles, M.D., Ph.D.
